    • Hello Kainat Zahoor, Thank you so much for your kind message. I'm glad to read that watching my TEDx talk was valuable to you. I wish you much success in putting the insights and tips into practice. Sometimes it will work and give you a sense of peace and victory over yourself. At other times it will be less easy and frustrating. That's ok. Then be gentle with yourself and most of all be proud of the progress you are making. I encourage you! Please share the TEDx talk with your friends and colleagues. The more people I can reach, the more people will live in harmony with themselves and others. From the bottom of my heart, Frederik Imbo

  • Excellent throughout. From the start to the the wonderful close. Ego is a thing for many of us.

    shenoyeshenoye15 घंटे पहले
  • Okay so this is how I understand this concept. 1. For biological threats (bacteria, viruses, fungi, parasites) the immune system fights them off. 2. For physical threats (violence, being attacked by a predator, too hot or cold) the fight/flight/freeze/fawn response fights them off. 3. For word threats, emotional threats, I do know that fight/flight fights them off, but it doesn't work. What system handles that? I know mine is broken (as is my immune to an extent and my fight/flight), so I must learn how to strengthen it or calm it down. I have methods to calm down the other two or strengthen them to be more realistic, but I don't even know the name of this third hidden defense mechanism. It's obviously there but what's it called? How do I regulate it?

    Sarah GardnerSarah Gardner20 घंटे पहले
    • Hi Sarah. Thank you for your response. To be honest, I don't know about a third system. To emotional threats, also the fight, flight and freeze system protects us. We have to wait for at least 10 seconds, so that the impulses can evolve from our amygdala (fight-flight-freeze) to our prefrontal neocortex. In this part of the brain we are able to reflect upon ourselves. There we can put things and words into perspective. I hope my answer is helpful.

People who are self centered are not loving themselves truly. They are just pretenting to love themselves. They try to compensate their lack of self love.

  • At what point will one avoid the ego(protector) so much so, that they dance on the line of becoming a doormat, and being taken advantage of ALL the time. In order to not create waves in a professional environment; one continues to bottle up and not listen to their gut(ego) only one day explode from bullies and abusers that take advantage of the hard earners and reward the lazy egomaniac complainers. Little bitches that are seen as Golden boys, continued to be protected by nice people ignoring their ego. At what point is someone going to teach people how to stand up against this toxic “professional” office work environment?

    Silent Genius ClubSilent Genius Club4 दिन पहले
    • Hi Silent Genius club, It's indeed a thin line; how do I avoid taking things personally but not getting used by other people? Thank you for your reaction and asking me this interesting question. There are two things. First of all, how you feel yourself by the behavior of other people. By not taking it personally, I hope to increase the inner peace. The second part is how you react to people. If you want a connection with the other one, you can empathize with the other one OR tell them what you're feeling. If you don't want a connection, because you're to hurted, I would take distance and protect yourself for that person to avoid that he's hurting you even more. You should love yourself in the first place and certainly speak up, but not because you take things personally, but because you respect and love yourself and you want to fulfill your needs.

And even if it’s intended to be personal it’s on us to take it that way. I have issues with my mom and dad. We don’t choose our parents. It would be nice to have people in my life that I feel care about me in my way. Life goals🍻. Take care and remember free will is a fiction

      DamonDamon5 दिन पहले
    • Hi Damon. The audience was rather quiet indeed. That is because hardly any sound was recorded from the reactions in the room. As a result, some reactions were added afterwards in the editing. The silent audience makes many suspect that they didn't find it interesting ... And you know, that's possible. Or they didn't like my style, or they were tired, or... or... Anyway; whatever the reason was, luckily I didn't take that personally :-)

The only thing I’d like to add is there is a healthy balance between letting things go and allowing people to take advantage of you’re niceness. By the way that ending line made me get out of my seat and clap, I’m not even in the audience😂

      Ghayle ColinaresGhayle Colinares6 दिन पहले
    • Hi Ghayle, a very interesting question. Even when what the other person says is very personal, you don't have to take it necessarily personally. You can still focus on the unfulfilled needs of the other person that they try to fulfill by hurting you. It has nothing to do with you but everything with the struggle or the pain of the other person. Let me give you two quotes that might help you as well. Hateful behaviour is rarely only what is seems. Those who hurt us are themselves in pain.
The appropriate response is hence never cynicism nor aggression but, at the rare moments one can manage it, always love. Alain De Botton All the seawater in the world can't sink a ship, unless the ship takes on water. All the negativity in the world can't touch you, unless you let it.

  • - Someone, who doesnt take things personally: Someone, who doesnt care at all, maybe a psychopath. - Someone, who takes all things personally: An egocentric believer in social rights and social/emotional intelligence. - Healthy/firm person (or generally born before 2000): Probably doesnt need to be told, what to take personally and what not. Frederik Imbo gets other words and things wrong also: - Taking things personally is not the same as considering things important! The guy 2:10 in the car behind yours is addressing specifically you, so its correct to take his angry message personally. But that doesnt mean one should consider this message or him to be of importance. Same goes for most of the other examples he tells. Most of them are examples of things, which ought to be taken personally simply because they are and wouldnt make any sense otherwise. - Beeing right is not the same as insisting on beeing right! "Do you want to be right?" Well, dont you? And dont you want others to strive for that, too? Really? Isnt beeing right important and good? What about that referee-example and why should there be a referee, if he didnt care about the game to be played correctly? What if a pilot or a chirurg doesnt care about beeing right anymore? Who wants to be in that plane or under that scalpel? Does anyone really want to live in a society with a large proportion of people not acknowledging what is right? Also, he gives no explanation for his strange conclusion, that one can experience more harmony in the presence of people who dont give a f*ck about anything. Insisting on beeing right or in other words avoiding to even think of beeing wrong is a matter of the ego as is going on stage and acting or giving a presentation like this. Its totally ok to feed the ego for beeing right as long as one cares to be right in the first place.
